We’re used to seeing mythical creatures portrayed as tall, powerful warriors or ancient bearded wizards. After all, slaying monsters or performing spells takes strength and expertise. But the enlightened Rudy Siswanto of Hong Kong decided to turn our preconceived views upside down by presenting them as newborns.
Medusa, the Minotaur, and many others still look fantastic, but they are so little that you can envision them dozing in the middle of the Odyssey.

#1 Medusa & Gargoyle
Siswanto is from Indonesia and presently works for Riot Games. Baby bestiary is a client project that I completed while working at Caravan Studio. It was for a crowdfunding campaign by Metal Weave Games. They came up with the idea for an RPG book featuring infant creatures, and I assisted them with the visual design. I contributed to the first two volumes and assisted them with the artistic direction.
#2 Griffin foal
I’ve learnt a lot from this project, not only how to make baby replicas of several well-known creatures, but also how to observe animal features such as gestures, proportions, and how they move, which has helped him create even more wonderful creatures. Overall, credibility is high.
