After attending Salem State College and graduating in 1983, he began sending drawings to newspapers and magazines. In 1987, Off the Mark made its debut after the Universal Press Syndicate finally discovered his work. He won three Best Newspaper Panel Awards for Off the Mark in 2008, 2011 and 2017. He also won a Best Greeting Card Award in 2013.
