We can never predict when inspiration may strike, and for one artist, it did so during a dull meeting at work.

The artist, known only as Lark, was enthralled with how she felt a stronger connection to the sound of birds chirping than she did with the facts her employer was droning on about incoherently corporate terms. As Lark said, “I realized that bird is far smarter than us to never enter a location like this and bind itself to our foolish way of life. What if, however, it wasn’t so wise? What could possibly lead a bird that was born free and wild to give up its independence and begin functioning the way humans do? What precisely divides us, if anything?”

This is the query that gave rise to a comic book series. Lark pictured the birds as employees of Catch.co, a company headed by Mr. Catch, a cat CEO. This ridiculous idea was transformed into amusing situations that most people can identify with.

Without further ado, let’s dive right into this strange yet familiar world of birds of labor.

The illustrator also provided some insight into her creative process, saying, “I had certain plot points I wanted to meet, especially for the Birds’ Office comics. For instance, I understood that in order to make Joe’s final meeting with his soulmate all the more devastating, I had to offer him a number of heartbreaks. I take a lot of time to consider the emotions I want to portray in the comics, such as innocence, disappointment, and expectations. However, since I’m most creative when I’m at ease, what typically occurs is that, after giving these ideas a lot of thought, I can ultimately come up with a way to convey the narrative when I’m taking a shower or getting ready for bed.I simply always keep a notebook or my phone close by so I may jot down ideas and then carry them out a few days or weeks later.
