When drawing comics, artists may spend hours producing several panels to tell their stories. However, occasionally a single panel is sufficient to express their message. Nate Fakes is an excellent illustration of this! This comic artist is completely dedicated to making sure that his work lifts people’s spirits after a difficult day.

artist to learn more about his most recent work. First, we wanted to hear what Nate thinks are some of the most satisfying parts of being a comic artist. Fakes told us, “Creating something that entertains an audience is the most rewarding aspect of what I do.” I enjoy receiving feedback about how a comic brightened someone’s day or how they shared my work with others. It’s always encouraging to hear that my work is making a difference in some way.”

Nate also shared with us what motivates him to keep creating: “I’m constantly motivated to write comics because I feel compelled to. There are days when I don’t have any ideas or don’t feel like drawing, but the motivation always returns. I believe it is simply inherent in me to be a cartoonist, and there is no getting away from it. I suppose, as they say, it is my passion.”

We were curious about how Fakes’ art style evolved over time, and what circumstances affected these shifts. The artist stated, “My style changes slightly as I explore with different things. I periodically experiment with digital art tools, which have many interesting capabilities. Eventually, I determine whether to use them frequently or not. Also, my style varies based on the project. For example, my graphic novel, A Fade of Light, was created in black and white. It looks extremely different from my humor comics.”
