The desperate reason for being drunk

A man had reached the end of his relationship with drinking. His wife gave him a harsh ultimatum: “If you come home drunk again, our marriage is over.” The man tried to stay away from his favorite pub, but he couldn’t.

He drank and smoked too much that night, and it left him stained and smelling bad. He asked a friend for help because he was scared. He told her, “If I go home like this, she’ll leave me for sure.”

When he got home, his wife was very angry. She said, “I’m leaving you!” with a disgusted look on her face. But the man made his case and showed the twenty-pound note as proof. “Someone was sick on me, and they gave me this for the dry-cleaning.”

As she looked through his jacket pocket, his wife’s anger turned to interest. When she found not one but two twenty-pound notes, her face changed from anger to shock. She asked, “Why do you have two?”

He replied so quickly that she couldn’t say anything: “The other one’s from the guy who had an accident in my pants.” Too much of an absurdity set in, and his wife’s anger turned into laughing.

This silly excuse may have gotten the man off the hook for a little while, but it’s a good lesson that being honest is always the best thing to do, especially when it comes to the dangers of drinking too much.
