Sally has often spoken her thoughts on the contentious matter of ageism in the entertainment industry, which predominantly affects women and is a subject of great dispute. Unfair expectations and unfavorable criticism of women have been prevalent in the media and online, especially with regard to physical appearance. Female public personalities and  celebrities, especially those who are becoming older, are subject to critical assessments and allegations that they are attempting to hide their aging through cosmetic surgery.

Sally stated in a 2009 interview with Good Housekeeping that she has always been reluctant to get any kind of surgery.

“Oh, I wish that weren’t happening to my neck,” I think to myself when I watch myself on TV. Additionally, your eyes are really swollen, and your face is falling apart. However, after having plastic surgery, I see some of the women who I thought were so gorgeous when they were younger. I’m thinking now, Oh no, please don’t do that! Furthermore, it seems to be a grave insult to their current selves.

Even if her jobs now may not be as well-known as they were when she was younger, Sally has maintained her professional success throughout time. She still views ageism from the same perspective, though.

In a 2019 NPR interview regarding her movie “Hello, My Name is Doris,” Sally talked about how she has accepted the changes that come with becoming older and her age.

Sally remarked, “I’m an old woman, 70 is old, and that’s OK,” at the moment. “I have accumulated strength through the years; I own them, I deserve them, I earned them, and I am entitled to them.” In addition, I dislike a lot of things, including my neck, but it’s okay.

A lot of people aren’t aware that Sally has a secret medical problem that has affected the way she looks. Sally said that she had long felt she was at danger for osteoporosis in a 2006 interview with WebMD, one year after she had made her condition public.

I was Caucasian, small-boned, and getting close to 60 years old. However, I was astounded at how rapidly a woman might progress from having a risk of osteoporosis to having the disease itself.

According to the National Health Institute, osteoporosis is a common disorder that develops when bone mass and density decrease. Because estrogen is necessary to maintain bone density, it is important to note that this condition is brought on by the decline in estrogen levels that women experience as they approach menopause.

Sally has therefore experienced criticism on social media for her appearance, with some calling her “ugly,” “disgusting,” and making fun of her droopy appearance. The Academy Award-winning performer found strength, confidence, and support from her loved ones despite the negative comments. She remained unfazed.

After Sally and Steven Craig got married in 1968, they had two boys, Peter and Eli Craig. Eli pursued a career as an actor and director, while Peter went on to become well-known as a screenwriter. Regretfully, in 1975, the couple got divorced. Sally first became romantically involved with Burt Reynolds after a few years, but in 1984 she wed Alan Greisman. Their son, Sam Greisman, was born to them prior to their 1994 divorce.

“My sons are the three things in my life of which I am most proud. They are productive, caring, and lovely individuals. Everybody has their unique set of skills and achievements,” Sally exclaimed to Closer Weekly.

Sally downsized her Malibu home and is now a grandmother to her five grandkids, living in a $2.3 million oceanfront property in the gated Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.
