We inquired as to how they would depict the purpose of life: “That’s something we’ve attempted countless times before. Keep an eye out for our comics featuring Kevin, a sweet guy who has a conversation with his creator about life’s big concerns. ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Purpose,’ for example.”

We were curious if these comics were influenced by any films or television shows: “You are the one who must inform us. We have a hard time defining our own sense of humour. However, we were exposed to a variety of comedic influences as children. While Elizabeth has grown up with Mike Myers and American humour, Jonathan has grown up with the Monty Python films and has been a lifelong devotee of British humour.”

Everyone knows that 2020 was a difficult year, so we asked War and Peas about their experiences in a recent interview: “To be honest, dark humour feeds off of hardship, so when things are chaotic, it’s sometimes easier for us to produce jokes.” At the same time, we, like everyone else, are concerned, saddened, and enraged about what has occurred. So it sometimes takes a lot of energy to stay focused. At the end of the day, it is our job to make comics, and we try to get paid for it. Sure, the creative industry is really struggling and we’ve felt that too financially. But at the end of the day, we’re hopeful that people will always need to laugh.” For now they say that 2021 is going better, but “it’s not over yet.”
