Life with children can be hectic, but Kayela Larson, a mother of four, has discovered a creative outlet for the chaos. Larson’s drawings are charming and fun, depicting motherhood and all of the humorous insanity that comes with raising young children.
Classic Disney films such as The Little Mermaid and The Lion King sparked the artist’s love of art and animation, which she pursued throughout her life. After college, she started a family and had children, and her time for art gradually faded. Larson stated that after a particularly difficult day of parenting, “I decided I needed to get involved in something that made me feel more like myself,” she wrote.
A passion that was once soothing and cathartic now felt awkward and strange to her.
“Looking at my crappy attempt at drawing a cartoon, I realised that ‘artist’ was an important part of my identity that I wasn’t ready to give up. I guess that was the wake-up call I needed, so I got right to work.”
As evidenced by her work, Larson regained her confidence and refined her style. She now uses life to fuel her art, creating fun parenting comics. Scroll down to view her work!
